Mausoleum at Halicarnassus Print
THE MAUSOLEUM AT HALICARNASSUS
A grand interpretation of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Completed around 350 BC in what is now Bodrum, Türkiye, the monumental tomb was built for Mausolus, ruler of Caria, and his wife Artemisia II. Combining Greek, Egyptian and Anatolian influences, it was celebrated for its towering colonnades, sculpted friezes and pyramid-like roof crowned by a monumental chariot. Its fame was so enduring that the name Mausolus gave us the modern word “mausoleum.”
